Is YTT For Me?

How much yoga experience do I need to take this training?

There’s no exact measurement of experience needed to participate in Seaside Kelowna Collective’s 200hr RYT; however, you should be sure that you have a genuine interest in deepening your understanding of the practice of yoga. If you’ve been practicing consistently for 6 months or more, that’s a good indicator that you’ve developed a genuine interest and commitment to your practice.

What if I’m not flexible enough, strong enough, smart enough…..?

You are always enough. Sometimes it helps to take a step back, a big breath, and repeat it to yourself: I am enough. Everyone comes to yoga in their own time and yoga is a practice that should be accessible to everyone, regardless of limitation; so we are happy and honored to meet you where you are. That said, if you have a physical limitation due to injury or if you have a chronic condition, please talk to us so we can work together to make sure you’re supported and set up for success. If we determine together that this program isn’t the right fit for you, we’ll do our best to guide you to one that is.

I plan to work and manage other priorities while in teacher training, is that realistic?

Completing 200 hours of yoga teacher training is emotionally, physically & intellectually demanding. You must be able to give the process your undivided attention. Life happens, and we get that, so it’s important to set yourself up for success and get your personal life in order in advance of your training so you are less likely to be distracted from the work at hand. Outside of class time, there will be approximately 60-90 minutes of homework per night, depending on each individual’s pace. It’s important to get as much practical, in-class experience as possible AND complete all supplementary reading and assignments to help you absorb, understand and apply what you’ve learned, be prepared for your final exam, and become a confident, capable instructor. It is equally important that you balance your priorities and make time for a strategic self-care practice.

I’m interested in deepening my practice, but I’m not sure if I want to teach?

While you will graduate our program prepared and confident to teach a variety of mixed modalities, there’s no pressure to continue teaching after training. Many yogis find participating in teacher training is a wonderful way to deepen their practice and understanding of yoga. It is a truly a transformational experience, and we’re here to support you on your path, not tell you what your path is. That said, in order to graduate the program, we must be able to send you out into the world as a competent instructor in the event you do decide to teach somewhere down the line. Regardless of your desire to teach after this training, you will be required to participate in all teaching exercises and pass your practical exams.

I’d like to take the training but am unavailable for some of the dates. Can I still participate?

Due to the great amount of accelerated learning over a condensed time period, attendance is mandatory for the full duration of the course. We wouldn’t want you to receive an incomplete training any more than you would want to leave feeling ill-prepared to teach. Please be sure you can commit to attending the full curriculum. If you can’t make it work this year, please sign up for our newsletter so we can make sure you get an invite for our 2020 certification!

I’d love to sign up but finances are tight. Are there any scholarship or payment plan options?

We will award one $500 scholarship based upon the recipient’s financial need and their level of service to the community. To apply for this scholarship, please provide proof of income and an essay on how you plan to use your certification to help others. Send us an email letting us know you are interested in this option and we can go from there: Payment plan options are below.
